CATEGORY C&E TRAINING

Up until November 2021, anyone wanting to gain a Category C+E licence had to hold a Category C licence.

However, due to the demand for HGV drivers the rules for this changed in November 2021. If you hold a Category B licence (car) and are aged 18 or above, then you are entitled to go straight to the Category C+E. (Known as the Car to Class 1 Course).

The Category C+ E Course insists of the below 4 tests.

Module 1a & 1b “Multiple Choice & Hazard Perception Theory Test”.

Module 2 “Case Study CPC Theory Test”

Module 3a “Off road exercise” also known as the reverse manoeuvre.

Module 3b “On road driving test”.

Module 4 “Practical Demonstration Test”

If you don’t already hold a Category C licence, then before you can take any of the above tests you must complete a driver medical and apply to have the provisional entitlement added to your licence. This is arranged by us as part of our starter pack.

As a requirement for taking your test the trailer must be loaded with a weight of 8,000kg in the form of 8 x 1,000 litre IBC’s throughout your training and test.

Once you have completed your Category C+E course and successfully passed your test this will allow you to drive any large goods vehicle with a trailer with a maximum authorised mass of over 750kg.
